Open CSV or Excel

Guide

How to open a CSV or Excel file

You can open a table in this browser in under a minute. You do not need an account. The file stays on this computer.

1. Go to the tool

Open csv.phkasla.com. You should see a dashed box that says you can drop a file. If you already have a table open, use File → Open file or close the current file first.

2. Drop a file or choose one

Use any of these:

Common files that work: .csv, .xlsx, .xls, .ods, .json, .tsv, and .txt. Word (.doc, .docx), PDF, HTML, Markdown, and some zip listings can open as text or as a table.

3. Search, sort, and edit

Click a cell to move. Double-click or press Enter to type. Use the search box to find text. Click a column header to sort or filter. You can add or delete rows and columns from the menus.

View → Column summary shows counts and simple stats. View → Charts draws a basic chart from the visible rows.

4. Download or copy your work

Use File to download Excel, CSV, or JSON, or to copy the whole table. If you close the tab with unsaved edits, the browser will ask you to stay.

What stays on this computer

The file is read here. We do not upload it. This browser may remember the last table locally so you can return later. That is not the same as sending the file to Phkasla. Read the privacy policy for storage and cookies.

Files we will not open: pictures, audio, video, and program installers. Password-protected Office files also cannot be opened here. A file larger than 40 MB is too large for this page.

If the table looks wrong

CSV files sometimes use a different separator or a strange first row. Try opening the same file in Excel or Numbers and exporting a new CSV. For Word and PDF, we open the largest table we find, or the text if there is no table. Scanned PDFs have no text we can read.
